Interview with MYNC Project

Nick Correlli from MYNC Interview

MYNC Project picHow old were you when you first got interested in dance music? When I was really young I used to attempt to breakdance! Old electro stuff, Michael Jackson etc. kind of got into my alternative stuff N.I.N. Faith No More, Janes Addiction etc was into my Industrial music in my teens too Front 242, Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, this led to hearing The Orb, Orbital Aphex Twin, went to Uni in 93 and discovered house music and clubbing'

Which djs influenced you in those days? Roger Sanchez, Greame Park, Allister Whitehead,, George Thompson

When was MYNC formed? 1999

MYNC are renowned for using 4 decks and 2 mixers, with advances in technology over the years and many djs using laptop technology, do you have any plans to add any new technology to the mix? Maybe we could have 4 laptops and two mixers in the future! We have added 4 cdjs into the mix and we do use Efx units as well. If I had my laptop I would end up checking my emails and surfing porn!

thisismyhouse has been a regular on the Club Connected CD player. Did you enjoy making the album? Yeah it was great fun, its obviously not the same as being in a club, we planned this mix a little more, as we couldn't license as many acapellas as we usually use in a club situation so we concentrated on making it as tight as possible.

Does the album reflect the music you play in Clubs? And did you get to choose all the tracks yourself or did art & craft have a say in it? On a whole I would say yes, we have always played a broad range of house music, we are playing a more underground sound in clubs, purely as that is the music that is exciting us the most at the moment. We did have to include some Art & Craft repertoire which we did go back and forth on but we came to a good balance of tracks.

Can we expect any new productions? We are just about to promo a new version of our edge of 17 track, we've had Abigail Bailey rewrite and re sing the track, it will come out under a different title. We have remixed Bush II Bush's 'Piano Track' on SAW, We have also been working in the Studio with Danny Rampling which will probably be his last ever studio production, its sounding hot so far so we are going into the studio to finish it off. There is a follow up single almost ready and a couple of remixes all being worked on.

How are the MYNC sessions going at Gods? Is it nice to be playing a residency again? Going really well, we have two more parties this year and we will be doing 4 next year too, so we have a great platform to build a good midlands residency which has served us so well in the past. They guys at Gods are really on the ball so it's a pleasure working with them. We love having a residency it's where we built our name from really.

Next month you are heading out to Asia. What's the club scene like out there? Unfortunately due to visa problems we won't be heading out to Asia till next year now'which is a real shame we have always had a great time out there.

Which club would you recommend us to visit? In Asia ' M2 in Seoul South Korea ' blindingly good club!

What has been the highlight of your career so far? There have been a few, couldn't pick one above the other really, our first time on the LGDP, our first essential mix, our first festival date. I'm hoping for a few more highlights to come along!!

If you could play any place in the world, where would it be? Would definitely like to hit South America, Pacha Buenos Aires looks like an amazing place.

If you could work with anyone dead or alive, who would it be? Would have to be Trent Reznor the guy is a genius his new album 'With Teeth' is awesome.

Have you heard any new Dj's who have impressed you? A lot of new djs are also producers, people like David Jimenez, Luke Dzierzak, James Talk Audiofly, Electric Press, are all making their names as producers first. Putting out some quality house music. Parker & Pasquale who run an awesome night in Leicester called Shivoo are two brilliant djs.

When was the last time you were strutting your stuff on the dancefloor and who was playing? Shivoo in Leicester, Annie Mac & Leo Beltchetz were dropping some top notch house music!

What will be keeping you busy over the coming 12 months? Plenty of productions we will also be launching our Cr2 Compilation Series United Nations of House, plenty of work at the label plus loads of gigs!
