Q: You're track current 'Something on my mind' stated out being called' Edge of seventeen' with a Stevie Nicks sample. Where did the idea for the track come from?
We heard the track in the film 'School Of Rock' and instantly thought that it was an idea that could work. We got hold of the soundtrack and listened to the song over and over again, it was such an uplifting song yet the subject matter of 'Edge Of Seventeen'
was very personal to Stevie Nicks as it was about the death of her uncle and John Lennon. We tried to keep the emotion of the original version, yet add elements that would work on a dancefloor today. We were pleased that clubbers and djs alike felt the version we did.
Q: It's been snapped up by Matt Jaggers new Apollo label. Did you think the track would cause so much interest?
Edge was already proving to be quite a big track, but we couldn't clear the sample, so we had the basis of a big record but it was up to us to come up with a new song that retained the vibe of 'Egde of Seventeen' we felt confident that 'something on your mind' was a strong version and when Pete Tong played it for the first time we were so thrilled and it sounded great! Matt and James at Apollo were both very big fans of the new version and we were pleased that they picked it up for the UK. We never thought it would get to the stage of making videos, pushing for playlists etc, we made the track because we though it was a good idea and really liked the original version.
Q: Abigail Bailey is the vocalist on the track, how did your team up with her?
Once we knew we had to record a new version, we started looking for songwriters and singers, Abigail was approached and with her writing partner Mark Hoey, came up with a demo version of 'Something On Your Mind' we really liked it and so got together in the studio to lay it down, Abigail has a great voice and was the perfect choice to sing the new version. The finished version was then played to a musicologist to make sure the version was different enough to the Edge version so that there would be no problems in regards to sampling issues, arrangement, copright infringements, he cleared it and we were free to do what we liked with 'Something On Your Mind'
Q: Who's remixed the track?
Its quite a big remix package, Switch, Steve Mac, Danny Freakazoid, Aaron Mclleland, SoulSeekerz have all given it a tweak!
Q: The track has all the makings of an Ibiza anthem. Will you be playing in Ibiza this summer?
Yes we will, we have already been out there once for the opening of Pacha on June 2nd, which was awesome, played the closing slot and it was still rammed at 7.30am. We are back at Pacha on August 24th for the Yoshitoshi Party, can't wait!
Q: Is there a video to the track?
Yes there is, we shot it in a studio in north london a couple of months ago. Our intial idea was to shoot the video in Buenos Aires, its a shame the record label didn't think the same! :-)
Q: What was it like making the video? Any funny stories?
It was good fun, being our first video it was a case of going with the flow, and not knowing what to expect. The studio crew and director were a really good bunch of people and put us at ease straight away, we had a really good laugh all day. We filmed our parts first, then Abby then the Dancers last, we saw the dancers practicing their moves during the day, unfortunately we had to leave for the studio before their section was filmed..when we saw the finished version with them in bikini's we wished we had stayed longer!
Q: Are you going to be making a follow up?
We are working on a couple of follow ups, we are going to go back into the studio with Danny Rampling to work on a follow up to 'Strobelight' and on 'Something On Your Mind' which we have a couple of ideas for, we are hoping the follow up with be a little bit different, still housey but with an more alternative vibe than the current track.
Q: Are there any other projects you are working on?
We are currently in the studio working on a couple of remixes, for Data and Virgin, we are also in the process of working on a collaborations album, working with djs/producers and musicians not necessarily involved in the dance arena and seeing what noise we can make together!
its still early days on this project but we are talking to people who are interested in working with us, watch this space...
