Set to return to Australian shores in August, the UKs Dj Hyper (aka Guy Hatfield) has indeed come a long way since his beginnings in hip hop and break beat in the fur fore of Mo Wax scene of the early 90s.
After being discovered by Lee Burridge, Hypers Y3K and Bedrock Breaks compilations and sets at John Digweeds Bedrock Night at Heaven saw him burst on to the scene with a ferocity rarely seen and gain international acclaim.
Renowned for being able to convert hoards of house heads to new eclectic and accessible styles of music, Hyper followed up his initial success with a double mix compilation Wired in 2004 and the creation of his own boutique club label Kilowatt projecting him to elite status in the breakbeat world.
Hypers debut artist album We Control was released in 2006 and not only saw Hyper launch successfully as a full live band but reaffirmed his standing as one of the hardest working producers/DJ on the planet! The singles Twisted Emotion, We Control and the crowd rocking cover of Ant Music, sees cutting-edge electronic culture make a return to the days of the Punk Rock revolution. Even the world of big-business has taken to Hypers truly amazing sound, with We Control finding its way on to the Peugeot 207 car campaign.
In 2007, Hyper returned to the studio with an agenda in mind to produce some killer club & dance floor gems, with No Rockstars being the first to see the light of day. Engineered with Vandal and guitar synths from Jim Davies, Hyper has delivered a club banger that fuses punk rock with bass heavy beats and an electro hook suitable for the most innovative of dance floors. Needless to say, Annie Nightingale (Radio 1) views it as Hypers best tune yet! And with his second offering of the year, Im Sick, already touted by Eddie Temple Morris as another peak time bomb from Hyper and being hammered by the likes of Adam Freeland, its clear to see that 2007 and beyond is going to be big for Hyper juggernaut!
