Usually only the social outcasts would be found at the movies on New Years Eve, but this year things are set to change as Killer Presents: Felix Da Housecat, Spank Rock, Chromeo and Muscles, the second event in Killers Demolition Party series at The Abandoned Cinema, a mind-blowing venue within the heart of Melbournes CBD. Think warehouse party slash plush cinema surrounding fused together with the unique Killer touch. What better way to bring in the New Year than with this explosive combination of world renowned acts.
Chicago disco visionary Felix Da Housecat first stepped into the studio twenty years ago and has since produced an innovative body of work including the amazing albums Kittenz & Thee Glitz, Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever, and his latest effort which, as fate would have it, is titled Virgo Blaktro and the Movie Disco. One of the innovators of the current electro sound, Felix has remixed and collaborated with an eclectic array of artists including Kylie Minouge, Marilyn Manson and P. Diddy. Internationally renowned for his ability to consistently rock dance floors, Melbourne is in store for something special as Felix unleashes three hours of face-melting electro-glam upon our very own Movie Disco.
Spank Rock spit diligent sex-raps over an esoteric mix of dance music, punk rock and electro in a truly unique take on the Baltimore club scene from which they emerged. Spank Rock followed up their saucy breakthrough Put That Pussy on Me with last years cult classic album YoYoYoYoYo and its singles Bump and Rick Rubin. Accompanied by MC Pase Rock and DJs Devlin and Darko, the Spank Rock collective deliver a frenetic live set that suggests exciting possibilities for the future of club hip-hop.
Montreal electro funk two-piece Chromeo, whose second album Fancy Footwork spawned the infectious singles Tenderoni, Fancy Footwork and Bonafide Lovin, serve up sexy, hook-heavy synth-funk that would make Prince himself swoon. Chromeo is slick. Chromeo is dripping with reverb. Chromeo is Moog riffs, luxurious harmonies, macho guitar solos and real-deal songcraft. Chromeo will definitely get you dancing at The Abandoned Cinema.
PLUS I scream, you scream, we all scream for MUSCLES! From humble beginnings, Muscles has come along way and is one talent you'll definitely want to catch. With mega hits such as Ice Cream and One Inch Badge Pin already under his belt and supporting the likes of Justice, M.I.A. and MSTRKRFT at Parklife, this kid certainly knows how to deliver an epic mash up set that will leave you begging for more.
