The recent release of albums by Radiohead and The Charlatans for free, or on a pay what its worth basis, reflects the massive changes occurring in the record industry. The recorded music market might be in turmoil, but the popularity of live music has never been stronger and both artists and record companies know its never been more important to get out and wow the crowds with great live shows.
So its timely that Music Live the UKs biggest music-making event returns to Birminghams NEC between 2-4 November.
Designed to inspire a new generation of rocknroll stars, to excite older players into musical activity and to simply be a great day out, Music Live features the biggest exhibition of musical equipment in the UK. Visitors can get their hands on electric guitars, drums and keyboards from Fender, Gibson, Marshall, Yamaha and Roland.
The exhibition also offers the opportunity to rub shoulders with the stars artists including Status Quos Rick Parfitt, Velvet Revolvers Duff McKagan and Dave Kushner and Slayers Kerry King will all be visiting Music Live to sign autographs and meet fans.
Added into the mix is an eclectic Live Stage line-up, a Drum Room with masterclasses from Jamie Cullum drummer Sebastiaan De Krom and Jerry Brown (Ms Dynamite/Will Young), and free seminars in the Revolution Café full of great advice for those planning a career in music.
And to kick it all off, Music Live 2007 (working in conjunction with Total Guitar magazine) will see an attempt on the world record for Largest Guitar Ensemble playing Smoke On The Water, naturally on Friday 2 November. Around 1800 guitarists are needed to turn up to break the current record, a number that the organisers are confident will be reached!
