A monster of a back to back special from the Hardware crew…
Renegade Hardware have one of the most distinctive identities in drum & bass. Known for their tough beats and funked-up basslines, the wide scope of artists that fall under the Hardware banner have led to countless groundbreaking compilations from the label, and in June 2008 they launch the latest in a faultless collection of triumphant multi-artist LPs, ‘Babylon’. The album features ten tracks from artists across the Hardware stable; some of the highlights include Keaton & Hive with an incredible VIP version of their anthem ‘The Plague’, the thunderous ‘Babel’ by Fission, eerie and apocalyptic D&B on ‘Genocide’ by Loxy & Munk, and some seriously bass-heavy space-funk from Cause 4 Concern on their piece ‘Catch 22’. Every track on there is a killer, rivaling Hardware’s epic all-time classic compilation ‘Essential Rewindz’ for quality.
Renegade Hardware will celebrate the release of ‘Babylon’ with one of the year’s most exciting line-ups and the most eagerly anticipated Hardware night at The End in some time. They love a back to back special, and on June 6th they present a line-up that leaves all previous efforts in the shade, combining Hardware heroes old and new in an immense showdown. Just some of the many face-offs getting drum & bass heads worked up are Loxy B2B Ink, Vicious Circle B2B Dom & Roland, the legendary Trace B2B Bad Company with a set encompassing the best of the techstep glory years 1998-2002, and some of the best of the label’s more recent incumbents such as Limewax B2B Donny, Gremlinz B2B Munk and two of the scene’s most exciting producers right now Sabre B2B Survival.
The lounge meanwhile sees a couple of the Hardware regulars Shinobi and Miss EP spinning the finest hip hop and R&B, plus there are a few welcome curveballs. Trace will be showing his versatility with a minimal house set, Slaughta Mob will be throwing down some dubstep, and Keaton will be going back to his roots with a set of deep hip hop beats.
Renegade Hardware is one of drum & bass’ great success stories with their wide-ranging yet unmistakable sound. With ‘Babylon’ they have set down another marker for quality at the tougher end of the drum & bass spectrum with an album of stereotype-swerving set of tunes that are dark and devastating, yet musical and forward thinking. This launch night is going to be one for the record books!
